The Children's Hospital, The Kempe Foundation for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect and Kohl's Department Stores have partnered together to bring you this comprehensive Shaken Baby Syndrome prevention campaign in Colorado. We believe that in order to dramatically impact this issue and reduce the problem, we must better educate the citizens and leaders of our community. The Kempe Foundation for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect The mission of The Kempe Foundation for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect is to increase awareness, engage in advocacy and secure and provide resources for the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect through the work of The Kempe Center. The Kempe Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect was founded in 1972 by Denver pediatrician C. Henry Kempe, who pioneered the identification and recognition of child abuse and neglect. For over 30 years, Kempe has been at the forefront of the child protection movement and leader in the fight against child abuse and neglect. Directed by the nation's leading experts, The Kempe Center has been recognized as the world leader in child abuse treatment programs and hosts nine innovative programs that treat abused children, train medical professionals and research new treatment methods to help and heal the most children. Together in the past year, nearly 1,500 children and their families were treated at The Kempe Center, and across the country over 2,500 professionals were trained to work on the front-lines defending children.
